It has had a remake, actually. There's a two-part television version that adapts Rosemary's Baby and its sequel Son of Rosemary.

(There's apparently also an earlier sequel -- not adapted from the novel, because it hadn't been written at the time. And a prequel. Both made for television.)

But the Polanski version is, a) excellent, and, b) very faithful indeed to the novel.

If you're looking for a more 'horror-y horror' you're basically looking for a different story altogether.

I mean, perhaps by what qualifies as horror in modern cinema, it could be thought of more as a thriller... but the horror of the story lies more in the way a vulnerable young woman is treated by her community -- and most especially by her husband -- than in any of its intentionally underplayed supernatural elements.

They did and it was awful. It does not need a remake. What we need are more original movies such as this one.
