did anyone feel sorry for henry fondas character? he was a villian but seemed to be trying to do the right thing

I dunno -- it's difficult to be sympathetic toward a guy who says: "If a man's worth shootin' he's worth killin.'

Take 'em to Missouri

Felt much more sorry for him in this than his charactor in "Once Upon A Time In The West".

Henry Fonda's character is a complex one. His main problem is that he feels safer in a group mentality. He doesn't want to kill James Stewart but he's trapped by the expectations of his men. In a way I do feel sorry for him but Hank Fonda was a victim of his own ideas of right and wrong
