Are you kidding me???

I was just doing a Broadway survey about shows in development that I'd be interested in seeing and this is happening.

I thought making a musical out of Heathers was weird.

Also....

It's not just Hollywood that has run out of ideas. Everything on the stage seems to be either based off an existing movie, or an artist/bands catalogue, or a revival show.

reply

Iā€™m hoping for a musical adaptation of Silent Movie, myself.

Don't be stupid, be a smarty, come and join the Nazi party

reply

Haha! Never heard that before.

reply

That's from the play, Springtime for Hitler, within the movie, The Producers (1967). The line was dubbed in with the voice of the director, Mel Brooks. Probably the best movie about accounting fraud in the history of film.

There are a few people here who I'm sure were about to take you up on your offer.

reply

Yeah, I am so tired of Hollywood's endless superhero franchises. New talent with new ideas is being blocked by the corporate money machine.

That's ridiculous. Leave "Lost Boys" alone and let it evolve into a cult movie favorite.

Young playwrights are obviously being ignored.

Back to the future

The host is edgy. Heads up.

There's also Pump Up the Volume, Water for Elephants, and a host of other movies that really have no business being musicals.

At least from what I've read The Princess Bride musical is still stuck in developmental hell, but I could be wrong. I think I'm just grumpy tonight.

reply

You sound like me on Friday.

I'm grumpy today too. Godzilla x Kong was not for me. Then I went to target for groceries and they had one register open. That's fine if there's only a few people in the store but that wasn't the case. Then I got notice that. Friends mother is in a bad way.
At least we can laugh at absurd remake/sequel culture. It used to be a horror thing. Now everyone is getting a good dose of it.

reply

It used to be a horror thing

Absolutely.

Let's cheers to being grumpy and hope that tomorrow will be less grumpy. šŸ»šŸ„‚

Cheers buddy!

I WOULD LEGIT WATCH THE PRINCESS BRIDE MUSICAL...NO MANDY OR WALLACE OR ANDRE OR WHATEVER...BUT STILL...EVE WITH MY DISLIKE OF MUSICALS...I WOULD BITE ON THAT ONE....SORRY...PEOPLE LIKE ME SEEM TO BE THE PROBLEM.šŸ˜‚

reply

lolz , I had no memory of that part of the movie . its been a while

reply

It's actually kickboxer. But it still works.

reply

Yeah , I read that in the comments .
I've seen kick boxer , obvs not as much as BS,
my only memory was the guy assaulting concrete pillar , the brother in wheelchair , and the broken glass gloves .
and didnt the bad guy have a ponytail?

zero memory of the drunk dancing lol , although it is slowly slowly coming back to me

reply

JCVD's drunken dancing, your drunken dancing, or both?

I'm betting on both lol.

reply

hah , correct both , If I'm dancing I'm incredibly drunk, doing it under duress, and usually have little memory of it šŸ¤£

reply

SIGN ME UP...I HATE MUSICALS....BUT I WANT THAT!

reply

OUR GENERATIONS ARE MAKING ALL THE SHIT NOW...NOSTALGIA IS A POWERFUL DRUG AND MOST OF US ARE ADDICTED.

reply

I get it. I like Ready Player One probably more than it deserves because I'm a sucker for nostalgia. But...I would like to see more of the nostalgia worked into other properties. Like Stranger Things. Well season 1 anyways. At least with something like Grease, it hit nostalgia without being a remake of something.

I just think it's funny that there's a Pump Up the Volume musical when one of Harry's lines from over 30 years ago is:

All the great themes in life have been used up, turned into theme parks. So I don't really find it exactly cheerful to be living in the middle of a totally exhausted decade where there's nothing to look forward to and no one to look up to.

Perhaps it just comes with age? I think I'm just really grumpy lately.

reply

PUMP UP THE VOLUME IS A WEIRD ONE....I FEEL LIKE THE SHOW WOULD HAVE TO ADDRESS THE FACT THAT IT'S VERY EXISTANCE IS AN AFFRONT TO EVERYTHING HARRY STOOD FOR.

reply

Agreed.

my foot hurts

reply

I guess the world of musicals (braodway) has realised the marketing value of existing well known film and are cashing in on that.

Same thought process as the hollywood remakes
