Movies Best Watched While You Are Drowsy

There's at least two movies that I think, well for me at least, are best watched late at night while you're drowsy and drifting in and out of consciousness - The Trial (1962) and Dark City (1998).

What about you - any movies you like best just before the Sandman knocks you out?

I’ve actually thought this exact thing about Lucio Fulci’s films for some time. Just a few nights ago I watched Conquest (1983) late as I was drifting in and out of sleep. This particular film has a hazy or foggy like feel to it which just enhances the dream like quality. I definitely thought about it a lot the next day at work and how it was an “experience,” more so than just watching a movie.

Fulci’s films are certainly great for this type of viewing. Movies like The Beyond (1981), and many of his others, rely heavily on atmosphere and nightmare logic to move things along. Jean Rollin’s films are also perfect for that “so high you’re about to fall asleep” or in and out of consciousness viewing. I’d add Jess Franco to the list too. 😀
