Yeah, he changed for sure, but I suppose he held out longer than a lot of people - being the "everyman" while ascending through fame and riches. At a certain point, most people do some kind of "acclimatization" to their wealth and stop remembering what it was like to be a nobody. Howard took some time, but he got there.

I'll always have love for the court jester (meant in the most complimentary way) that Howard was, but he's been stripping away the magic of his show for years.

He said something in the last 5 years or so that put me off so severely that I cannot even recall what it was. It was like I immediately excised him from my consciousness at that moment.

I'd be very curious about what that was. I'd still potentially listen to a great interview, I just think that it's jumped the shark. Given Howard's origins as a shock-jock, it's hard for me to imagine any one thing he could say to make him more repulsive and, therefore, written off. Do you remember the nature of it? Did he support something really PC? Did he endorse a nasty political position?
