January 1982

For those who were not alive in January 1982, or have no memories of that time, the first Quarterflash album very succinctly epitomizes that time period. Formerly Seafood Mama, this band came out of nowhere, were briefly seen and heard everywhere, and then disappeared almost as quickly. Oh sure, they had a few minor hits after this album, and placed a number of songs on movie soundtracks, but their big moment had passed and they returned to semi-obscurity. To this day, one can still hear "Harden my Heart" playing in the background at restaurants, dentist offices, and country clubs. I'll always wonder if anyone born long after the 1980s ever hears some of their music and wonders, "Who were Quarterflash?" And that CRYPTIC album cover!
