Little girl

It's been about six hours since I finished watching this movie and I can't get the image of that little girl out of my mind -- lost in the dessert, holding onto a broken doll, catatonic and mute from all she has seen. And when she started screaming in the hospital, you could actually see what she witnessed -- the brutal decimation of her family by these giant ants. *Shudder*

Without a doubt, the best moment in the film is when they waft that formic acid under her nose and she completely breaks screaming "THEM!".

One of the reasons this movie is so good!

I thought the best scene was when she was in back of the ambulance. When she heard the chirping sound and sat up, the hair on the back of my neck rose up.

Thats good filmmaking.

I loved that shot, as none of the adults had seen her sit up or lie back down. The catatonic stare is also done as well as it was ever done on film. Her scream is, of course, a classic.

"Get yourself a Glock and lose that nickel-plated sissy pistol."

I thought the late James Whitmore did an especially good job playing the little girl. Bravo.

To johnd70978:

First: James Whitmore is still alive.

Second: He did not play the little girl.

I watched "Them!" on Saturday, for the umpteenth time since I first saw it on tv in the 1960's, and Sunday I just happened to watch "The Space Children" again, in its Mystery Science Theater 3000 version, and there she was, the little girl from "Them!".

Sandy Descher, who played the Ellinson girl in "Them!" in 1954, returned to play another spooky kid, Eadie, in 1958 in "The Space Children".

I remember seeing "Them!" for the first time when I was about 13 or so and getting goosebumps when she sat up in the back of the ambulance....

"columnated ruins domino"--"surf's up".

She did that really GOOD!!! She truly looked scared out of her wits. Quite a contrast to the 'Jaws' sequel I saw where the girl seeing the obligitory shark says, "SH-SH-SH-SH...SHARK!" Great acting from the little girl. P_ss-poor acting from a teenager in a much later movie.

I loved her as Chewbacca.

She was good as the lead in "Black Like Me" too. One of the greats ... gone at 87.

she was great!

Sandy Descher was nearly eight when the movie was filmed. I thought she seemed younger.
