I recall that when Festus' character was first introduced he had a steady girlfriend over several episodes but subsequently she disappeared and he never had a love interest again. Perhaps the girl friend had died and Festus could never bring himself to move on again, that she was his only true love. Any ideas?

But as the series progressed, Festus became increasingly asexual -- with the notable exception of the moment when Matt makes it clear just how unattractive to women he is.
There were definitely sparks flying between Festus and Abelia (Jacqueline Scott) in at least one of the color episodes she was in. He seemed to hit it off with her kids too. No idea why they didn't pursue a story line with the pair of them--or someone else--aside from the fact that none of the main characters were married or even in what one would consider a long-term, strictly "exclusive" relationship (and I include Matt and Kitty in that.)

It's hard to imagine any woman going for Festus unless he bathed, shaved, and changed his clothes. Dude looks sweaty and dusty all the time.
