(white) lady of the fifth moon

hollywood never seems to get over the idea that white people play colored people better than the members of some specific race. bethel leslie and schallert as the other guy as chinese people is as ridiculous as david carradine taking a part created specifically for bruce lee or matt damon playing an asian in some new piece of (probable) crap called the great wall. even when sidney toler and warner oland played charlie chan, hollywood had chinese actors capable of playing it. peter lorre as mr moto was about the same on the idiocy scale. i understand the actors want to show how great their talents are, and when eddie murphy played a white guy, it was about the same, EXCEPT for one thing: eddie murphy was raised in a white culture, and all these actors (freeman and gosden, too) just defined their roles by stereotypical traits. so that is 'as dave sees it' for today's reflections.
