episode 'An Angel Cried'

This was one of the episodes in the later years of the show. The ones where Dan'l is in the it during the first 10 and last 10 minutes of the show, and the bulk of the episode is carried by one of the co-stars. 2 things I spotted....

The co-star this time was Jimmy Dean. The story has him taking a very stubborn mule on a trip, to come across Mariette Hartley, a nun who was the only survivor of a massacre.

The first thing was in the beginning. Josh (Jimmy) is convincing Dan'l that he has to make this trip. He can't wait for Dan'l to become available to go with him. He promises to stay away from the Chief's "sq-", then big-smile,
then "village..." He then grins a big one. Not sure if that was a real blooper, or the misspoken word was intentional. Anyhow, it was funny.

Next was after his character, Josh, came upon the burned wreckage of the church
with Hartley. As they walk past a wrecked stagecoach, you can see a boom microphone's shadow for a split-second. Interesting.

I love the show. Go Dan'l go!

I saw this episode today, and the one thing I noticed is that it is a direct remake of one of my favorite movies, "Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison." I missed the very beginning, so I didn't get to see if there was a "based" on writing credit given to the writers of the film. I tried to see if there was any mention of it in the IMDB page for this episode, but I didn't see anything.

This is the third thread remarking on this, or rather perhaps the first as I am reading through these threads backwards. I guess I'll have to watch that movie.

In a belated answer to your post, the writing credits are not at the beginning, but the end. Credit was given to Martha Wilkerson and no one else. As of now the TV episode is available on YouTube. I watched the film because three people here (on second look, more than three) said this episode was such a ripoff of it, and posted my impressions here https://moviechat.org/tt0057742/Daniel-Boone/58c724eb5ec57f0478eddb9d/Blatant-Plagiarism-S0613-An-Angel-Cried and also on the MovieChat page for Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison. I was happy to be able to watch a great film I'd otherwise have missed.
