I find it great nostalgic fun.

The first season is in black and white and then Seasons Two, Three and Four are in color. Same thing happened with The Man From UNCLE, and in both cases, the black and white season actually feels like the best...more noirish style for TV.

The iconic theme song. The way each fade out "froze" to create a four panel mosaic by the end of each episode. The packaging was as entertaining as the dramatic content.

The villains -- overall, the dwarf Dr. Loveless(Michael Dunn) -- a perfect foe for the rather shot Robert Conrad to tower over.

The pretty ladies.

Robert Conrad as James West -- muscled, brutal and handsome.
Ross Martin as Artemis Gordon -- more than a sidekick, a scientist AND a master of disguise and voice.

None of the other TV hero pairings -- Kirk/Spock, Solo/Kuryakin -- quite teamed up "brawn and brain" like West and Gordon did. It was a great schoolboy fantasy -- the nerd could hang with the cool tough guy.

Try the 90 minute b/w pilot. Some fine guest stars in Suzanne Pleshette, Victor Buono(playing Chinese) and Nehemiah Persoff(playing Mexican.) A touch of post Civil War history conjoined to US/Mexico relations.
