Write-In Campaign to Request Sequel

Little House on the Prairie badly needs a sequel movie! The Brady Bunch and The Waltons have done this repeatedly with great success, and the sequel to Leave It to Beaver ran almost as long as the original series. The last movie sequels to Little House on the Prairie aired decades ago and we are long overdue for another.

The sequel (TV movie or better, miniseries, preferably available on streaming as so many people are giving up regular TV) should open when Laura Ingalls Wilder falls on hard times during the Depression and writes Pioneer Girl, which she presents to her successful writer daughter Rose for her opinion. The story should follow their struggles and initial failure, finally ending in the success of Little House in the Big Woods. Plenty of biographical material exists on which to base this and clips from the original series could be effectively used.

The remainder should focus on the surviving cast of Little House on the Prairie, as many as will participate.

Who would you most like to see return and doing what? I, for one, want to see Albert survive his apparent death as portrayed in a movie sequel and return as the town doctor to save other desperately ill children.

How should cast members who have passed on be honored?

How would you arrange bringing the cast back together after the town was destroyed in the last show?

Since Melissa Gilbert will in a few short years be the same age Laura was when she wrote the books, this needs to happen as soon as possible.

The owner of all film rights to Laura Ingalls Wilder's works can be contacted here:

The more people participate, the more we can make this happen! Thank you very much.

A sequel? I think it is a bit too late for that. And to be honest, the Great Depression is not really a topic I would like to see depicted as a direct continuation.
What I could much better imagine would be a biopic about the real Laura Ingells, her story is likely much more interesting. These years were the time, the books were written. If Melissa Gilbert is interested, she could maybe even play Ingells.

There's no reason not to do both but what I would like to see is a direct continuation of the series.

What would you think about a new interpretation by Netflix? Like Anne with an E? Or maybe like the Crown several years out of Laura's life?

I made it through four episodes of Anne With an E before bailing. Not quite a travesty but pretty awful. I shudder to think what they'll do with the Narnia books which are currently in the works. I did catch some of The Crown which seemed excellent. The only reason I think a long-term series wouldn't work is the issue of getting Melissa Gilbert off her farm which she loves. I think short-term miniseries is a more doable goal.
