Why none of the supporting cast from the comics?

There was no Betty, General Ross, Rick Jones or Glenn Talbot. The only character adapted from the comics was the central character, all the other characters were replaced by original creations like McGee, that would be like doing Batman without Alfred or Jim Gordon.

Budgetary concerns prevented the show from exploring the military hunting down the Hulk, beyond 'Prometheus' which was the one episode which was probably the best and which definitely did the best job of representing what the Hulk is really about.

But the main reason why all the characters from the comics were ignored is because Kenneth Johnson wanted to distance himself from the source material as far as possible.

Which kinda caused problems for subsequent live action versions where people are constantly looking at the show as the way to go with all versions and think the source material is like that.

Whats the point in doing it if he wanted to change everything?

Because of the changes everyone has because overly influenced by it.
