The helicopter version of KITT
That's what I always thought, anyway. I wasn't as fond of Airwolf as I was of Knight Rider, but I thought the chopper looked interesting, the pilot was charismatic and the theme tune rocked.
Generally agreed with those points. I think the key difference is that Airwolf as a "character" was not a personality but more of a tool to be utilised. They did not attempt to create an AI intelligence to interact with the human characters, which would be way too derivative of Knight Rider, although it seems (from what I've seen) that they were keen on infusing as much logical gadgetry as possible in the stories that was in keeping with the military purposed helicopter.
