About the closing down of IMDb message boards on February 20 2017? Why? If you have over 250 MILLION USERS then why shut it down?

reply

My guess is it's a chain gang effect, punish everybody for the actions of the trolls, who are not going to be affected by this, they'll just go onto other boards and forums and cause the same crap, it's everybody else who's going to suffer.

It really is a shame that they're shutting down the message boards. It was one thing I looked forward to catch up on what was and is going on with my favorite shows from the 70's and especially the 80's. Thanks for ruining it for the rest of us!

I think they mean the site has over 250 million users, not the message boards.

I used to use their "watchlist" feature that reminded when movie/shows were on, they canceled that. Now with this canceled, I doubt I will use it much, if at all.

Shutting down the individual boards for each movie and tv episode going back decades and decades is a massive blow .

All those threads with older folks sharing what it was like to be in the theatre when a new Hitchcock or Elizabeth Taylor movie came out. The threads in which obscure trivia and important facts about the film were shared. The 15+ years of threads full of literary analysis about movies and tv shows that are otherwise forgotten.

It's like a national museum shutting its doors and throwing away the collections.

Incidentally, i only recently got into Miami Vice after changing the channel for months when it aired on Cozi channel.

It was reading these message boards for Miami Vice that piqued my interest and got me to appreciate the show.

I'm really upset about the boards going. Waste and loss of knowledge always upset me.

All will go "poof."
