Patrick Stewart memoir reveals TNG secrets

Probably nothing hard fans didn't already know from reading previous making of stuff but there's a few interesting bits (no doubt more will come out in next few days):

-Roddenberry was very opposed to his casting. I don't think I realised just how opposed Roddenberry was to him and continued to be until he died. "Occasionally, I would see (Roddenberry) on set sitting with his head in his hands, just staring at me," says Stewart. "And I knew he was saying, 'How the hell did he get that part?' Anyway, may he rest in peace."

-He had a relationship with TNG guest star Jennifer Hetrick (Vash) and they were involved in a dangerous car chase when the paparazzi chased them

-Frakes & Spiner had to give him a Riker/Data like talking to in his trailer after he stormed off set in the early days for the cast not taking it seriously enough

-He was initially concerned about the Wesley Crusher character and Wil Wheaton being a teen gimmick

-He rewatched all the episodes and movies in preparation for the book, noting there were some 'hideous racial stereotypes' in the early seasons (Code of Honor) but certain episodes are still strong as ever (Best of Both Worlds , Chain of Command) and he feels the show peaked in season 5 and 6.

-Ian McKellan told him not to take the role and to stay in the theatre

First, Johnathan Frakes whined about "Code of Honor," now Stewart is whining. The fake Trek fans who watch all the Paramount plus Kurtzman Trek shows say Star Trek was always woke, so why are Frakes and Stewart now calling TNG episodes offensive?

reply

Wesley Crusher was a teen gimmick, but I'm one of the few fans who ended up liking the character.

reply

Paparazzi after him in the early 90s?

reply

Yeah, he was pretty famous at TNGs peak
