Why didn’t Hartman hear Private Pyle crying?

awesome you mentioned this! according to the imdb trivia, there's a deleted extended version of the scene that goes on a bit longer, where hartman comes out and starts berating pyle for waking him up. supposedly it was trimmed because it was "too cruel", but i've also read online that it was removed because it was unintentionally funny.
