Caine's singing

I've heard some people on youtube say it's bad. I don't think it is though. Opinions?

No it isn't, it's passable. I have to say Caine was the best he has been in recent years.

it doesnt matter if it is, and I agree that it is about heart, I love it and it works

I think that the people who criticize his singing forget three things. One: this is the first time ANYONE had ever heard him sing. Two: He's an actor by trade, not a singer. Three: he really didn't sing THAT much. Honestly, can you really expect him to be good at everything? I really enjoyed his performance, it seemed real and joyful. He's so cute in that scene. If it hadn't been passable, they would have dubbed it. Disney doesn't mess with music, they will put the best on screen. If he hadn't been good enough to sing the song, they would have given it to any one of the many men they considered aside from Michael. At least it wasn't Pierce Brosnan... I think its great that he sand it and it wasnt dubbed. It gave the moment more feeling which wouldnt have been there if it was obviously someone else singing. I didnt think his singing was bad either, not for that particular song.

Was he supposed to sound like a 10 year old girl? Lol... I agree though. He was great.

I think the fact that it wasn't the best singing you've ever heard that makes it so heart-warming in both of his song. During the commentary, Brian Henson says that Michael Caine was the first to admit that he knew he wasn't a great singer and was very nervous about doing it, which is part of the reason why Henson wanted Michael Caine to do it.

And I agree--although not my favorite Scrooge (Mr. Magoo and George C. Scott take those honors), I thought Michael Caine did a fantastic job.

Scrooge is a business man, not a singer, I like that he doesn't sound like a professional singer, it makes it more believable.

reply

Definitely, I thought he did a fine job.

He can't sing but he still performs the songs adequately well and manages to bring tears to my eyes every time I watch it.

Though they cut the best song from the DVD release.

He isn't a singer but it's not bad. The singing fits his character. I don't think Scrooge would have a magnificent singing voice.

reply

He's adequate - this isn't X Factor!

I agree with you, I don't think it is bad but if I do recall this was the first movie that really required him to sing in his whole carrier as a movie actor. But he is better then some other people that have sung, the most that might stand out for me is Pierce Brosnan, he sang in the film version of Mamma Mia he didn't sound nearly as bad on the rest of the songs that on the song SOS that he sings with Meryl Streep.

I liked it. It wasn't like a "Sound of Music" kind of musical. It would seem odd for him to be singing his heart out like an opera singer with the "singing" the muppets do. It would feel misplaced.
