Director Wes Ball breathes new life into the global, epic franchise set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.

I'll miss Caesar in this one, definitely one of the best new characters of the past decade.

CGI looks like a downgrade from previous movies. And the main character female lead looks like she's wearing mascara, lol. Doesn't look like someone that lived in a jungle for decades. Must've been some hundreds of years after the fall of man and back into caveman-like methods if they're hunching again.

reply

I'm wondering if she may be a recent arrival, like on a returning spaceship or from some sort of survival bunker...

But, once again, the trailer looks like I'd be better off just reading a summary of the film rather than actually watch it. I zoned out part way into the second film...

Looks like a greatest hits mashup of the last three. When are these apes gonna start looking like the weird hybrid apes from the original movies?

I raised that very question in this thread here:-
https://moviechat.org/tt0067065/Escape-from-the-Planet-of-the-Apes/65622dd14407527f73b4a703/Are-The-Chimps-Supposed-To-Look-Like-Chimps

In short, the apes in the original films look much the same as the Burton reboot. Yet in that film, at the end, Wahlberg's chimp lands and he's clearly very different from the POTA chimps.

But I don't know if the original films apes were supposed to look different or whether it was just makeup or the time...

reply

They were just lucky to be able to pull half-assed ape costumes for the original film. It was still the best of all the Planet of the Apes movies with all its flaws.

reply

It's probably the best of the originals. The reboot trilogy are all pretty good though...

reply

I've seen them, but I've never cared for the "reboots".

reply

Looks good.

Where are all those healthy looking devolved humans getting all those stylist clothes from?
