3XK S3 ep 6, humor with "WRITER" bullet-proof vest

Castle shows up with the SWAT team and they pan across all of them wearing the blue armored vests marked POLICE. Next they pan to Castle and his says WRITER.

I am new to the show (only watched four episodes), but is this LAUGH-OUT-LOUD humor typical for this crime drama?

That was so funny.
