A Review

Overwrought directing, stilted acting, and unsurprising story developments make up "Silent Night," John Woo's unspectacular return to the Hollywood blockbuster. Let me preach on it.

This movie could be summed up simply as Diet "John Wick." None of the set pieces are particularly memorable. They aren't anything that those movies didn't do with more flair, style, and imagination. This has to be the most run of the mill revenge thriller to come out this year.

The selling point of "Silent Night" is the fact that it has no spoken dialogue between any of the characters. This would be a neat trick if Woo had found a way to pull it off believably. The characters interact like video game NPCs. Their lack of dialogue feels awkward and unrealistic. Therefore, the movie's sole defining characteristic is actually one of its biggest flaws.

When it was over, I was completely unfazed. Had I even just seen a movie? The friend I went with asked me what I thought of it as we walked out, and all I could tell him was "We should have just gone to "Godzilla Minus One"." And now I suggesting anyone reading this to do the same.
