The Wokeman

Tried watching this but found it annoyingly woke and anachronistic . I have no problem with casting black people, but when you are trying to make us believe this is in the very early 20th century in England, and treat it as though you'd bump into a black person at every corner then it's just off putting. Not to mention the ridiculously out of place foul language for that period of time, just to make it more cool and appealing I suppose?

Saw the trailer at the end for what's to come and they even managed to throw in what looked like a trans character, in amongst the abundance of black and gay characters. Hmmm yeah, I think I'm out. Typical Netflix, they never learn.

Thanks for the heads-up. I know to steer completely clear from this disasterpiece.

reply

Yeah, the black actors are as common as the whites as if it's 45/55 population. Meanwhile super rare Asian and Hispanic. Guess this is what they mean by system racism, create a fantasy world where this is what it's suppose to be.

reply

It's not only that they cast black people.

Most positive characters have been casted as diverse, while negative characters remain white males. It's always the same pattern: they keep the main character a white male, but the rest of characters are divided into white males bad, diverse good. The moment you see a character, you check race and genre and you already know whether it's gonna be a positive character or a villain.

All of you on this thread are a bunch of racist retards.

It's got nothing to do with racism, so fuck off Desanto you woke prick. You and your pathetic woke ilk think the rest of us should conform and agree with all this fucking woke BS that's constantly thrown at us by Hollywoke, and if we disagree we get the usual 'racist, sexist, 'isms et all' labels thrown at as by you sad woke wankers, simply because that's all you've got. Wanker.

Lol you mad retard. I just stated a fact.

Be fucking original at least! Retard went defunct years ago ffs.

reply

LMAO...YOU ARE THE LEAST ORIGINAL PIECE OF SHIT I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED...YOU REPEAT THE SAME GOOFY CATCHPHRASE WORDS FROM THE UNDERBELLY OF POSTS...LIKE A FUCKING INSECT.

I had no clue what the show was about or that it was based on a comic... but as I watched it I had a feeling the Rose character was one of those woke joke tokens, mostly because they didn't even cast a believable black actress in the part. You have a white mom and a light skinned black dad, you don't get a dark black daughter. When that pops out you know they weren't casting based on what the writer had in mind to begin with you are just getting actors to fulfill a quota and ignoring reality. Then I look up the comic and guess what, Rose was supposed to have been a white blond girl. And Netflix wonders why people don't watch their shit.... it insults the intelligence of the viewer.

reply

But you did watch..

reply

Until the Rose character came in and the show took a bad turn. Then I stopped... Life is too short to finish a show just because you've started it, if it turns to shit just turn it off.

reply

I do second that. Besides, I couldn't stand the sandman comics.

I knew when Alex met the grounds keeper guy and they held hands my eyes just rolled and i thought here go with the mandatory gay/interracial storyline. Then there's the gender swapping. By itself not a big deal but they shove it into every tv show and movie. It's not progressive anymore. Now it's just cringy and boring.
