CQ- Paul's ending

It seems to me that, other than the brief shootout before the last scene (where the one Dragonfly revealed to be a robot), Paul's ending for Code Name: Dragonfly is the same ending that got the first director fired- only this time the studio execs seem to like it. Is this the case, or have I missed something?
