I much preferred Bewitched.
EM was dreamy looking, even to a ten yo.

I love the witches and warlocks especially Uncle Arthur but there is no contest between Samantha and Jeannie. Jeannie hands down.

I like both of these shows but I Dream of Jeannie is my favorite between the 2.

Bewitched because of Liz Montgomery. Not to say Barbara Eden wasn't nice to look at, but Samantha was the most gorgeous gal on TV at the time.

Elizabeth Montgomery was nice enough to look at, but as far as that goes, give me Barbara Eden.

As for the shows, they both have their annoyances (Larry Tate constantly inviting himself and clients over to the Stevens',Darrin putting up with Endora's constant shenanigans, and Dr. Bellows inviting himself and others' over to Major Nelsons' and always being in his business...

But I think Bewitched edges out Jeanie because of all the likeable characters (Sam herself, Darrin (especially the first), Aunt Clara, Esmerelda (I'm an Alice Ghostley fan) Uncle Arthur... and EM did a great job with Serena!

I also liked Bewitched because it's one of the very few sitcoms that had the main couple start out with no kids, ran that way for a while, then ran a while after a baby entered the picture. The only other one I can think of is All in the Family.

Bewitched. Samantha NEVER called Darrin "master."

reply

Actually, she did. There is a season 2 episode titled " A Strange Little Vistor" where Samantha DOES, indeed, call Darrin the "master" of the house. So that's not true that she "never" called Darrin master.

I Dream of Jeannie for me---it's more light-hearted and fun. I look at them like this: Bewitched was a family show with often serious themes that just happened to have fun, supernatural elements in it as-well, whereas I Dream of Jeannie simply was mythical and fun in every sense. And glamorous. Plus, it reminds me of my favorite musical, PETER PAN, and in turn, my fav stage stars, Mary Martin, Carol Channing, etc. for, after all, Mary Martin was Larry Hagman's mama! So, Jeannie for the win! (Though I love Agnes Moorehead and her Endora)

Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!
