ONE THING IMDb LACKED And Another Way to Stimulate Movie Discussion: Following Thread Feature [THREAD CLOSED]

When people posted on specific threads, the replies would only go to that specific person. Since this was the case and probably the best way to do it, many people, who had posted years and years ago; would never be alerted to reply back.

Now I could see one con to doing this- the reason they made it that way was so that the OP would not be barraged with unsolicited notifications.

reply

I think you are wrong. I used to get email notifications that someone replied to a post I had made years before.

reply

No, I think he's saying that you should get a notification if someone has posted in a thread you've created (or even just posted in), even if it wasn't a reply to your post. I actually think that the possibility to (un)suscribe to a thread is not a bad idea.

reply

Oh lord, who needs that!

reply

Well, like arvin pointed out, the OP or any other poster who replied to the thread and may be interested in other replies. People don't always reply to the OP or discussions may spin off. It's a feature that can keep threads active. And if you're not interested you can always unsubscribe.

reply

If you would rather go back to IMDb's way and keep your sanity, that could be one option as well. Thing is, there would be many dead boards, as there are right now, and there would be no incentive to visit those boards.

reply

I'm thinking it would be a nice option to add any thread to your notifications, even if you weren't the creator.

Anytime the thread was updated with a post, you would get a notification. Obviously, with the ability to turn it off, should you lose interest in the topic.

reply

Exactly.

reply

It would probably be either a "follow" or "reply all" button that one could subscribe to.

reply

You should follow Bubba.

reply

Great point!

reply

yeah, would be good to be able to notify more than just the person directly above you. maybe you can choose who you think should be alerted. often it can be 2 or 3 people out of the whole thread, not just one and not all of them

reply

I would think it would work better with just a follow or a reply all button that one can unsubscribe from. Imagine having all these check boxes you have to check, just to know who you want to be replied from.

reply

I never received an email notification from IMDB.

reply

Did you sign up for them in your preferences? I did, and almost always got them. Every once in a while there'd be some kind of glitch and they wouldn't come through. Otherwise, they were pretty reliable.

reply

Oh you had to sign up for them! Dopey old me, I didn't know that.

reply

Just the other day, I saw someone with an almost identical username to yours. It was MovieManCin without the 2. I think last I saw the guy was on the Lion boards. This was his IMDb account name.

reply

That was me, arvin. When I signed up on MovieChat, they wouldn't let me use MovieManCin, so I simply
added the 2.

Oh you had to sign up for them! Dopey old me, I didn't know that.

But then you did sign up for IMDb and should have received email notifications right?

reply

That's so long ago that I can't really remember, arvin.

😎

reply

It was just contradictory. I am guessing you may have forgotten that you did sign up with them. No worries.

reply

Well okay then.

😎

reply

LOL Classic.

reply

I would still like to see this implemented, although the idea has been elaborated on. Will we get this or the "follow" button? Awaiting...

reply

This forum is fine. All it needs are reviews.

reply

It obviously is not fine Barclay, as there is so much left to do!

reply

Just to be able to post reviews. That's all that is missing. I'm surprised that nobody has suggested that or that reviews aren't already an option of a forum about movie chat.

reply

If you actually read threads, you would know there are probably 20 on here that came up with your undiscovered suggestion.

Then again, you think all of them are stupid so....

reply

Do you think that you would like being a celebrity?

Do you like it when people learn from you?
posted 13 days ago in General Discussion

No genius created these thread topics....

reply

At least I'm not mentally ill like you. Lol

reply

My illness is stability. I am wondering if your version of normal is instability?

Hmm?

Hey, I would never judge someone with a mental illness; it is a pretty gnarly condition.

reply

Denial isn't a river in Africa, my friend.
I know creating a real quality thread is difficult for you but taking the lazy way out and trolling is a poor excuse.

reply

None of your threads are anywhere close to real quality.

I could come up with answers to them in a heart beat and even one worded answers.

reply

But just to poke at Bennie's questions...

"Do you think that you would like being a celebrity?"

Who asks that?

"I want everyone on this board to create a topic right now"

But yet, you decide what is a good thread and a bad thread?

"Do you like it when people learn from you?"

Are you learning things from other people? Because you surely are not teaching many people with these threads.

People usually go to threads that are mentally stimulating. This is why your threads do not make it to more than 25 replies, if that.

reply

[deleted]

I have fans and I reply to them.

You never think anything is remotely stimulating and that is on you.

reply

Fans?! It's like the same 5 people you're talking to! Lol

reply

5 more than respond to you Bennie!

reply

The same 5 people reply to me as well. They like replying to stuff. The difference is that I don't always reply back to them like you do. Accumulating posts on the general board is not my objective. I'd rather discuss movies and tv shows but there isn't much traffic on the individual boards, which people have been complaining about.

reply

So then why do you not take the time to put a thread, with the movie and t.v. show title and URL in the body of it?

It is clear you do not do that because you have multiple sock accounts and it is better to get a rise out of people than establish a traffic foothold on your message boards of choice.

reply

Because not enough people reply! I normally, post in the thread that asks what you watched this week. There are fresh names in that thread, enough to start conversations with.

I could ask you the same. Why do you never create a thread about a movie or tv show instead of the troll threads you have been making? Hmm?

reply

Because you have not looked very far into my profile history (oh great, now an easy way for a sock account to stalk me). I do create those threads. Additionally, I am a major contributor to this site as well. Check my posts + reply count. I do not have the fans I do because I have multiple sock accounts, Bennie.

reply

No I don't check past posts on profiles. I do read the trending titles and have yet to see any posts from you in them.

I always see you in general discussion. I check this board everyday.

reply

Or every 11 days? ;)

reply

I really don't keep track, stalker.

reply

Oh okay then...

*multiple sock accounts why would you need to keep track*

reply

That's enough you crazy fucking troll! I'm not going to be harassed and accused of being someone else.
Reported.

Goodbye.

reply

Okay Bennie,

I will be sure to tell the mods this is another of your sock accounts. I am vigilant!

reply

Go ahead. And they will see that you're just a crazy person who is trying to harass and run away legit posters just because you are unhappy with your living situation and get bored with it.

reply

All right Bennie.

Change accounts now!

reply

Give it up Bennie.

You insult people on here "most people here have nothing much to say either way".

You think their replies "are boring" and "lack originality".

You do not take the time to reply to those very people around you.

"If I wanted more responses then I would be replying to everything as well. But usually the replies I get aren't stimulating enough."

So really, you are on here to get a rise out of whoever you can, before you leave and come back after "x" amount of days.

We know it's you Ben!

reply

No. My objective is very different. I'm here to discuss movies and tv shows. I'm not here to post nonsense on the general boards. I tried it and got bored with it. I'm not like you.

As far as insulting people. I think the lack of new members to this site and the lack of posting on the individual boards is proof enough that the 5 people who post regularly aren't interesting enough to bring in more new people to reply.

reply

And there you go with insulting our fellow members "I think the lack of new members to this site and the lack of posting on the individual boards is proof enough that the 5 people who post regularly aren't interesting enough to bring in more new people to reply."

Your objective is to be a nuisance and I have to give it to you, you are completing that objective!

reply

I'm only stating the obvious. It's common sense. If those 5 people were more interesting, more fresh faces would contribute.

If you're annoyed with me, then don't talk to me. Simple. But you're going to continue because you have nothing better to do with your life. Troll.

reply

Bennie, I would never be annoyed with you.

It would be much easier to not write to me because you could change accounts in a blink of an eye.

reply

I have no idea who this Bennie person is. You might be a tad paranoid.

Are we done yet? This back and forth with you is a waste of energy.

reply

Oh I see Bennie, are you going to change accounts now? Go right ahead.

reply

Well it's official. I think that you are a truly off your rocker.

We can end this discussion. I'm bored with you now. Get a life.

reply

Only, you are still writing on my thread Bennie.

reply

I'm through.
Congratulations on trolling me. It won't happen again though. I promise you that much.

reply

You know it will not because you will just come back with another account name.

reply

Don;t you find it curious, arvin, that almost this exact same conversation (on his side, that is) takes place every time bennie gets busted? He has this ridiculous image of himself being clever, but is actually quite unimaginative and, well, let's say mentally challenged

reply

People write that, even with the ignore button, email notifications pop up. If one goes to the profile, does it not offer the option to turn "on or "off" email notifications? In my profile, it offered me that choice.

reply

[deleted]

I want to see if it works on you.

reply

Little bennie's starting to lose it

reply

Actionkamen

reply

Wait, what?

reply

Ideas to stimulate discussions on the individual message boards.

reply

Ah, yes. Good ideas. I also has an idea in another thread. Let's wait Jim to implement some kind of these features.

According to Croft, it can take forever.
