IMDb traffic going down significantly!

I hope this is accurate, I believe Alexa.com is a reliable source, it's even an amazon company rofl!

Check the chart... since the message boards went down there has been a steep decline, hopefully it keeps going down and it wasn't a temporary effect, please DO NOT go back to that site until they have put the message boards back on and not only that but have the CEO ***APOLOGIZE***

I don't want them to replace the message boards. The trolls would return. I like all these new online communities that have been created as an alternative. More people to met and a completely new environment to thrive without the trolls.

reply

I disagree. All these alternative sites are fine to use as an FU to Imdb, but I still think they have the most comprehensive data for films and tv...and I think it's a very well-designed site, too. I'd return there in a second if they had the balls to say, "ok, we F'ed-up...we're bringing the boards back." But until they do, I'll avoid Imdb as much as possible because when I'm there and I check some data, it makes me think of something about the film/tv-show I want to discuss...and then I remember that isn't possible anymore.

It's been dropping steadily for the past year and bottomed at the end of December 2016. After the board cancellation announcement, it spiked upward past 2015 levels, and it's apparently bottoming again. Whether it shoots past the year end low remains to be seen, but I suspect it will set a new historic low at the end of this month, at least for a while.

EXCELLENT! The bastards deserve no less!

reply

They're deserve this.

cool graph!

The way IMDb handled the board shut-down has left me permanently embittered toward them. Now, when I find myself needing some film info, I purposefully skip over IMDb in the google results and find what I want on a different web site. IMDb used to be my first destination after watching any film. No longer.

reply

I am doing the same thing - relying more on wiki - I have not been to imdb since Feb 19.

reply

right fuck those guys and all their useful data!

reply

Useful data? Half the shit on that site is innaccurate Trivia. The rest are user reviews and critic reviews which RottenTomatoes does more efficiently and production information which Wikipedia does more comprehensively.

Imdb - name value aside - is actual one of the weaker entertainment news websites. It's so outdated.

reply

It's not all that useful. The data can be found elsewhere. The unique benefit IMDb had was the message boards.

If they had handled it more professionally (like, say, spinning the boards off in a planned-out way, giving more notice, or giving users a way to export data) I would feel differently. Instead, they thoughtlessly deleted 15+ years of film discussion. That tells me everything I need to know about how much they care about cinema and their users.

Would rather support a different site.

the quote section was pretty useful. i think thats the hardest part to avoid after i left imdb.. i google a quote and imdb is prettymuch the first couple results

reply

I am sure jim will develop this site. By the way, IMDb quotes does not even mention all the good quotes from a particular movie or a tv show.
