Another message board has been shut down

In the National Football League a football team has decided to shut down its message boards. Im starting to see a pattern here. This is downright pathetic. Its all about censorship.

The worst part is they didn't even notify people either. It just disappeared yesterday out of nowhere. Classy move.

Ugh. That sucks. I've had four forum-based communities shut down on me over the past few years.
Fantasy Hero gave a few weeks notice.
Groupie shut down without any warning whatsoever, but it was going down hill anyway.
Monster Kingdom shut down without warning.
A D&D style pirates role-play forum shut down without any warning, but it was short lived anyway.

IMDd I wasn't technically a member of, but at least they did give a few weeks warning.

Wow that's just sad. At least IMDb gave us a FEW days notice!

Yeah. After decades they gave us what, two weeks? And then didn't bother to keep their word on the actual date of pulling the plug. (No, no, I'm not still bitter? Why do you ask? :D)

Organizations are so caught up in "the social thing", they think social media is a substitute for a discussion forum -- it isn't.

I'm a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and there are many discussion forums about the Cowboys (maybe too many). If the Cowboys ever shut down their discussion forum, it wouldn't be any great loss. But I feel the pain of Bills fans. An enterprising Bills fan could open his own forum, but how would he alert other fans?

It is a sad trend, which started twenty years ago when ISPs decided to drop their support of USENET (the original discussion forum).

Im not even concerned about finding another board. Even as a Bills fan its easy to find one since the NFL is so crazy popular. Theres always going to be fans to talk with. Its just this whole idea of censorship that I hate. I mean god forbid fans are angry after 17 years of garbage (the last time they made the playoffs). How about instead of blaming us fans for being negative you blame yourselves for putting out a crappy product for nearly 2 decades.

Also their alternatives are a joke. Twitter and Facebook? Lol. I have both but those aren't places for deep discussions. Twitter especially with its 140 character limit. Message boards are the best thing to discuss things on.

That's the worst thing about IMDB telling their users to go to social media. That way IMDB can control which movies get discussed (they make like one post per day about a movie and make people talk about only that movie). Funny that most of the comments on their FB page are actually people ranting about the boards being closed.

I agree there will be fans to talk to.

If anything, there are way too many Cowboys discussion forums, and that's why I liked USENET, despite the trolls and OT posts. It was the ONE place you could go for deep discussions. Social media is a joke, but it's the latest "shiny" object on the Internet, and like USENET before them, discussion forums seem like old news in comparison. Good luck in your search for an alternative Bills board.

For Cowboy fans, there are two boards that are the recognized best, and now those are the only two I frequent.

Yeah Ive already found a replacement board but I just wonder how far this censorship will go. Where will we be as a society in 10 years? Its honestly scary to think about. Our ancestors are probably rolling over in their graves right now at how pussified we are. Its just sad. I fear for the future.

Well, I think celebrities are actually looking through these message boards and the sites are afraid to be sued by them. If fans talk bad about a player or celebrity and that player or celebrity sees it, they will end up under performing due to feeling emotionally "hurt".
