You are told who to see on TV

You are told who to follow. You are told who to vote for. You are told which celebrity to stare at. You are told which movies to watch. You are told what books to read. You are told what to study. You are told what cars to buy, and what products to buy. You are told to conform to this baseless society that has no purpose other than to ruin this pristine planet that once was. Why can't you think for yourself ?

reply

Because... money. We're basically force fed excessive fads in media to coerce us into buying. Everything is governed by money in modern society.

But there are a vast majority who aren't so naive, cognitively lazy, and/or a simple-minded drone. There are many individuals who choose to not adhere to the status quo and follow their intuition, heart and common sense instead.

It's in our human nature, biologically and evolutionary speaking, to conform to society. But the extent to which we do is largely dictated by our personalities and intelligence. Those, I believe, who harbour the capacity to tap into their higher consciousness', don't easily fall prey to brain-washing.

The very fact that you're even asking these questions suggests to me that you're someone who follows his own path. Just be careful not to fall too deep into the existential enquiries of life, or you'll be buried under endless doubts and miseries. Knowledge is power but it does carry a heavy burden.

Hang on, did I just respond to a troll? I've been absent for a couple of days :@

reply

I'm still not sure if he is a troll or just slightly autistic. Whatever the answer is, he is posting all this in the wrong section (where the most people can see it), so obviously he wants to be noticed.

Message boards will never change [insert laughing smiley]

ok troll

reply

I think so Babe! I know who I am going to ignore first.

Who told you to write this post?

just a teensy bit ironic that you are writing this on a movie forum and using the name of a movie character and parroting the lines from the movie... Why can't you think and speak for yourself ?

reply

Why can't you think for yourself ?

I do, and I think you watch too many sci-fi movies

REFERENCE: TROLL. IGNORE.

Not totally true. I am actually one of the few that will break out and boycott certain businesses, shows, products, etc. You and many others feel like that because you allow them to. Sure, there is a limit to what you can buy or consume; however, you make the best decision possible.

For instance, and in a movie/show related theme, take the Oscars. The board votes them in, the middle class has nothing to do with who wins. This is why there is so much bias on these award shows. The best thing to do would be to have an electoral college of sorts and allow the middle class to choose. We spend our money on movies and cable and we have no say? What?! This is why it is a choice for me to watch it. Nothing I do would ever influence who is picked.

reply

They do have people's choice type awards.
Also, people vote every day with their dollars. The movies that would win if "middle class" voted are already winning box office dollars.
The Oscars is supposedly more about art and not as much about popularity. Although they are definitely biased towards "serious dramas" and especially historical or true life stories, Biographies, etc. Comedies, sci fi, horror and action usually get skipped. That's kind of why I like the Golden Globes because they have a separate comedy award. but sometimes they are on crack like when The Martian was in the comedy category. WHUH???

Also , electoral college? omg no, look where that got us. if you are gonna have real people vote then one person, one vote!

reply

The only reason why I say electoral college is because there would have to be a representative or # of representatives if certain people voted. Since this would be more of an informal voting, many people may not vote (if they generally just do not watch shows nor movies or they miss a deadline). For all the people, who do vote, it would most probably be tallied on the internet and they would have to have a way to sift through duplicates. Who has not been that person who would vote multiple times on an online poll if we were allowed to?

reply

Well some of these things like American Idol where you text vote, they want people to vote multiple times because it charges you for every text!

reply

Very true!! I (we) are most definitely told these thing every waking minute. But, I'm the one who chooses to not give a shit about what I'm told to do!! 💪💪💪💪

this post makes a whole lot more sense once you look at the username

reply

The irony is he's only regurgitating lines from movies he was told to watch
