Annoying Actor with Limited Range

His only notable quality is his voice and not in a good way. Joe Pesci is basically the male Fran Drescher and the only thing I enjoy seeing him in these days are the Home Alone movies. Even then it's only because he's hit on the head with bricks and set on fire etc.

reply

LIMITED RANGE?....LMAO...WATCH MORE MOVIES.

reply

Hurr durr I've seen more movies than you durrrrr.

Really though if you want to criticize a post you can do better than that.

reply

Tell us about the movies where he doesn't play a loudmouth thug.

reply

LETHAL WEAPON 2,3 AND 4.

GONE FISHIN.

JIMMY HOLLYWOOD.

BETSY'S WEDDING.

THE SUPER.

JFK.

THE PUBLIC EYE.

LIKE I TOLD THE OTHER "GUY"...WATCH MORE MOVIES.

reply

Who's point were you trying to prove?

reply

MINE...ALWAYS MINE.

reply

Apparently he's proving that Joe Pesci isn't an annoying one trick actor by providing more examples of Joe Pesci being an annoying one trick actor.

reply

DISINGENUOUS...YOU INVITE NO CONVERSATION...ONLY AN ECHO OF YOUR OWN CRIPPLED THINKING.

reply

Gonna cry about it or something? What's your angle here?

reply

I AM FAIRLY EMOTIONLESS IN MOST THINGS BASED ON MY PARTICULAR BRAIN CHEMISTRY...THE INTERNET IS INCAPABLE OF MAKING ME REGISTER THOSE KIND OF EMOTIONS...I AM SIMPLY REPLYING TO YOUR WORDS WITH MINE...BUT NOTICE HOW I READ AND CONSIDER YOUR WORDS BEFORE RESPONDING....SOMETHING YOU DO NOT CARE ABOUT...PRETTY SHITTY WAY TO PLAY.

reply

Fair enough. Can we agree to disagree about Joe Pesci being an annoying one dimensional actor and move on? I enjoyed that movie night a month or so ago and I'd rather not create too much tension over this stupid thread to compromise the potential for another.

reply

YOU COULD CALL ME THE DIRTIEST NAME IN THE BOOK AND MAIL ME A BAG OF YOUR USED CONDOMS....NEXT THREAD UP...MY REPLIES WILL BE AS FRIENDLY AS EVER...WE'RE COOL,BRO πŸ˜‰

reply

Good to hear.

Maybe we can find some common ground in thinking Danny DeVito, another short feisty Italian with a distinct voice, is awesome?

reply

ABSOLUTELY...DEVITO IS ONE OF THE GREATS...ICONIC ROLES IN EVERY DECADE SINCE THE 70S.

JACK THE BEAR IS MY FAVORITE FILM OF HIS...LESSER KNOWN BUT OH SO ENJOYABLE.

reply

Word. Danny DeVito is very high up on my list and Jack the Bear is one of his best. Great pick.

reply

I know, That's why I didn't respond.

reply

πŸ‘

reply

Go watch Goodfellas or Casino.

reply

Those movies are perfect examples of what a one trick pony, aka little man syndrome Italian guy with loud obnoxious voice, Joe Pesci is.

Why do you think he retired? Even he realized that he had been stringing that gimmick along far enough.

reply

Home Alone and My Cousin Vinny are proof enough he is not a one trick pony.
Goodfellas, Raging Bull and Casino just prove Scorsese is a one pony trickster when it comes to casting

reply

Home Alone yes, Vinny no. That's why I listed the Home Alone movies as the only films he's in that I can stand watching. That and seeing violence inflicted on him.

Even then he was out acted in Home Alone by a pre pubescent child.

reply

I watched Home Alone recently. I am positive that the shovel guy's shovel acted better than the kid.

reply

So a shovel > Macaulay Culkin > Joe Pesci

reply

No

reply

Yes

You're not alone. Everyone who isn't psychologically trapped in junior high finds JP irritating and try hard

🀣YOU MEAN YOU THE SEAANIMAL AND LIKE SEVEN OTHER DAFT DUDES.

reply

The Man is in his 80s and doesn't have to do anything unless it's a favor to Martin Scorsese.

reply

And when he does, what part is he going to play?

Oh yes, another rendition of his one trick wise little guy with a big mouth routine.

reply

I doubt he cares what you think.

reply

I doubt many if any actors care what people on these forums think.

And yet moviechat exists.

reply

YEAH...BECAUSE THAT ISN'T IT'S FUNCTION.

reply

Bet ya can't stand he won an Oscar for Goodellas, can you? It could have been worse. He was up against Al Pacino in Dick Tracey.

reply

I don't care about that. What I cant stand, and won't stand for, is one of his films playing in my home (minus Home Alone for reasons I've already mentioned). He's on a short list with the likes of Will Farrell in that regard; absolutely banned from my household without my explicit consent.

reply

IF I KNEW WHERE YOU HOUSE WAS I WOULD SEND YOU A PESCI DVD IN THE MAIL EVERY MONTH...THE JOE PESCI FILM CLUB I WOULD CALL IT.🀣

reply

That would backfire though in that I'd find a new creative way to destroy them each month.

Come to think of it, I actually don't know what I'd enjoy destroying more; Joe Pesci DVDs or copies of the Beach Boys album Pet Sounds. That's a tough one honestly.

reply

LMAO...WOULD MAKE AN INTERESTING SOURCE OF CONTENT FOR THE INTERNET...MY VIDEOS SELECTING AND SENDING YOU DVDS...AND YOUR VIDEOS OF DSTROYING THEM IN CREATIVE WAYS....I WOULD SUBSCRIBE TO THAT CHANNEL.

reply

I'd watch that. Move over Mr. Beast.

reply

It's okay. I don't like Will Ferril in anything but The Other Guys and Elf.

reply

I ENJOY THE MAN...BUT I GET WHY A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T....HAVE YOU SEEN STRANGER THAN FICTION?...PROBABLY HIS BEST ROLE...DAMN NEAR PLAYS IT STRAIGHT AS WELL.

reply

Hadn't seen those.

reply

SOLID FLICK.

reply

Might have to check it out. I like Dustin Hoffman.

reply

I haven't seen that.

I'm not exaggerating when I say I can't stand the guy, but looking up that movie I got the impression it might be like Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk Love. By that I mean a completely different role than he's known for. Is that accurate? If so I might give it a try.

reply

BINGO!

reply

Adding it to my watch list. Thanks for the suggestion!

reply

He was alright in the Other Guys from what I remember, but it's been awhile since I watched that.

reply

HOBOS USE HIS CAR AS AN ORGY OASIS🀣

reply

Haha the term orgy oasis is actually pretty damn funny.

reply

Hahaha ... I totally agree. Pesci is annoying and so are the movies he is in.

reply

Definitely. I really can't stand hearing the guy. Maybe his movies would be better to watch subtitled in a foreign language to avoid the sound of his voice.

reply

I get what you're saying about his typecast/one-trick pony element.

But to be fair, even 'Home Alone' is just the PG rated version of his (limited) tough-guy/criminal 'schtick'

IMO, the Lethal weapon franchise is a better reflection of whatever range he may have?

Btw, I hate 'Goodellas' (as a movie and especially a woefully misguided fanbase)

reply

You're partially right about Home Alone but even then I think that's more of a reflection of his limited range as an actor.

It's been awhile since I've seen the Lethal Weapon movie so I can't comment on that much.

I'm definitely with you on Goodfellas, a prime example of a Pesci movie that I dislike immensely.

reply

Just FYI he's not in the first Lethal Weapon and he's barely in the 2nd one.

reply

He's my favorite WOP 😍

reply

Wtf? Totally believable in Home Alone and Casino/Goodfellas .... also, My Cousin Vinny is his greatest film πŸ€—

reply

Totally believable in Home Alone, the movie where he's subjected to things like being hit in the head with a bowling ball that would kill or permanently disable anyone in reality. That's a funny description for his part there.

My Cousin Vinny might be called his best movie in that it contained him playing his gimmick role before it became stale.

reply

Believable, but the same character type.

Please tell us the last time he hasn't played a loudmouth thug.

reply

The whole point of this thread, other than me expressing my dislike for the guy, is that's all he does.

reply

My question was to ColumboKate. His defenders don't have examples. I am with you and have been for years.

reply

Got it. My bad; it's easy to lose track of responses when browsing on this site with a cell phone.

Good list there of Joe Pesci playing his one trick role. Thanks for the support.

reply

FALSE...VERY VERY FALSE...HOW DISINGENUOUS OF YOU.

reply

You're entitled to like Joe Pesci and his one dimensional roles but why be an asshole about it? I guess this feisty little Italian really means that much to you?

reply

I LISTED MULTIPLE FILMS WHERE PESCI DOES NOT PLAY THE USUAL EXPECTED PESCI TOUGH GUY CHARACTER...YOU DISMISSED IT AND WENT STRAIGHT TO STRAWMANNING MY ASS...YOUR INTEGRITY IS SLIPPING...QUICKLY.

reply

You're being an asshole insinuating that half the people on this thread are the same person. Not everyone dedicates time on these boards to reach 50k posts.

And frankly you're just being an asshole here in general.

reply

WOW...ANGER...SO WHO ELSE ARE YOU?...ALSO..I HAVE BEEN NOTHING BUT FRIENDLY....YOU MADE A POST I ANSWERED...YOU SEEM TO SUCK AT HEARING DIFFERING OPINIONS...WHICH IS WEIRD SINCE YOUR OPINIONS ARE SO OBTUSE.

reply

Your statement is about as valid as a mental image of a moving van loaded with 12 tons of scrap metal. That van must have some impressive suspension. That or you're full of shit.

Hmm, which is more likely?

reply

YOU GOT IT WRONG...ALSO...YOU ARE WRONG.😘

reply

Oh and speaking of credibility, you and a 16 year old girl moving 12 tons of scrap metal that you supposedly shoved into the back of a moving van....yeah...πŸ™„

reply

SCRAP METAL WAS HAULED TO THE STREET...WOOD AND DEBRI WAS LOADED INTO THE UHAUL...4 LOADS...ALL NEAR 4 TONS EACH.

reply

He is playing a completely against type role as a soft spoken and quiet Mafia boss in The Irishman.

reply

The guy is 80 at this point. His vocal cords likely don't provide him with much of an option anymore.

And really that role was his same schtick minus the annoying gimmick voice, for which I was grateful at least.

reply

Not really. You compare that role with his Goodfellas role it is totally different.

His age had nothing to due with the volume of his voice he was using, it was the character he was playing. I don’t think he is a very versatile actor, but role was an approach to a character he never used before.

reply

I mean that he switches between comedy and violent thug effortlessly, and I believe the character he is playing.
In contrast, when De Niro started doing comedy films I just couldn't get on board with it. I didn't believe his performance because to me, he is somewhat type cast in more serious films - he wasn't believable as a comedy actor.

reply

That makes sense. Thanks.

reply

THREE OR FOUR OF THESE GUYS SEEM TO BE THE SAME GUY.πŸ™„

reply

Don't you and a 16 year old girl have another 12 tons to move or something or was that another fable from imagination land? πŸ˜‚

reply

HAULING IS DONE...PROPERTY IS CLEAR...I AM RESTING FOR A FEW DAYS.

reply

It's true, he pretty much only plays loud-mouthed wise guys, but he's really, really good at it.

reply

I'm with you on that first part.
