Humming sound at the Great Nothern hotel

There are several theories about the origin of the sound:

1. Humming started when the key of the room 315 was returned to the hotel

2. The sound is coming from the secret room where Audrey used to go to spy on her dad

3. There are indian artifacts in the room where humming can be heard. Maybe it's part of the "something to do with Hawk's heritage" prophecy. Perhaps Dougie has to visit that room to become normal again

4. Humming is a sign that a portal to Lodges might be opening in that room. Perhaps on one of the dates written on major Briggs' note.

Lynch didn't give us much to work with, but I thought I'd mention (some of the) possible explanations.

I like theory 4. Do we know for sure it wasn't the room dale stayed in or is #2 a fact?

reply

I also like theory 4. Humming can be heard in the lobby and not in one of the rooms, so probably has nothing to do with the room Cooper stayed in. As for #2, the secret room is situated somewhere close to the lobby, I think.

I rewatched the scenes and #1 is wrong, cause Ben's assistant Beverly tells him that humming started a week before the key arrived. It's safe to assume that humming has nothing to do with the key.

But there's something else. The humming sound is similar to the sound cylinder produced right after Bobby Briggs threw it on the ground. After that the cylinder opened. This seems like one more clue that something is about to open in the hotel, i.e. a portal. (theory #4)

Wow, that is interesting about the cylinder, pretty impressive you caught that. Im definitely going to have to rewatch all the episodes again. There has been so much going on id all but forgot about the hotel humming scene. I do hope you're right about the portal in the hotel cause that sounds fun.

Kindof off topic but have you heard anything about why uncle jerry looks so old? I mean he's obviously shot out but why has he aged so much?

reply

I think the beard is making him look older. He kinda looks like a homeless man with that beard. And now his foot developed a mind of its own. I wonder how is he gonna come back from the mountain... he'll have to roll on the ground all the way home. Poor Jerry... lol

reply

Could be that the noise indicates the difference between the two Lodges and nearby events. The electrical noise is the Black Lodge and the humming the White.

reply

That's a good theory!
