Comedy?


That's what it says in the HBO Max description, and I've seen multiple articles looking back at the film that call it a comedy as well. Is it, though? I mean, Jack Black says a couple funny things, but overall I would not call it a comedy and I think that sets potential viewers' expectations wrong coming in.

Y'know, I probably would have agreed with you back when it was released, but these days the lines have blurred! I think the best comedies flirt with other genres and dark places(e.g. "Succession"...) The best films have elements of all, and it goes way back, I mean, look at movies like "The Blues Brothers" or "Rear Window"🕰🕰🕰

I just think this makes practically everything other than "Schindler's List" a comedy. It's just too broad a definition.

Just watching this movie tonight and thought of this thread, it's a perfect illustration of that "genre-blurring" style of filmmaking that we're talking about here...
