Fun words you never hear any more

I was talking to a friend recently and we were saying that you never seem to hear the word smorgasbord any more around here. I know that although they are slightly different, it was used interchangeably with buffet, and then one day buffet just took over. I think it's a shame as smorg was a lot more fun to say.

What's a fun word you miss?

reply

Retard.

We need to bring it back.

reply

Yeah. No. We can skip that one.

reply

So many people are worthy of it these days.

reply

I STRONGLY DISAGREE.

reply

Not even for your arch-nemesis?

You can't call women "chicks" anymore.

reply

I've always called any peer give or take 10 or so years "dude" since high school. Can't recall any non-friendly results. Except maybe this one chick...

reply

I'm in Southern California and I call every guy a "dude". Lol. It's beach lingo here. I noticed it's even common now to call a woman "dude".

reply

I thought chick and bird was used less frequently, but I don't think it's considered offensive.

reply

I SAY CHICK ALL THE TIME...AS WELL AS DUDE...I ALSO SAY BITCHIN A LOT.

reply

The reason "chick" came to mind is because I was talking to a British guy and asked him if English women are still called "birds". He said it was considered sexist now.

reply

I think some women find it a way of objectifying, but I didn't think it was seen as offensive.

reply

Both chick and bird are considered sexist in the UK now.

reply

In California "chick" is used as the female counterpart to "dude". I suppose it is sexist. But it was so common when I was growing up that I still find myself saying it.

reply

I’m say Dude and Dudette nowadays.

reply

I always include dude in my pronouns, as I never say dudette, and I refer to all sorts of people, animals, and objects as dude, including myself when I'm talking to myself.

reply

Rad - hardly ever hear it anymore
Gnarly
Tubular
Psych
Not - in the 'yeah, not!' context
'duh!

reply

I use gnarly occasionally.

My nine year old daughter uses psych, so maybe it’s making a comeback?

reply

I use gnarly sometimes too. I use most of those actually, but I hardly hear them from anyone else anymore.

That's totally rad that your daughter uses psych, though!!!

reply

Poppycock.

reply

I like codswallop, and will use it.

reply

Me too, lol.
