Is the Devo song "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" inspired by that of the Rolling Stones one even though its not a cover?

Anyone know, thanks.

P.S. And BOTH songs WERE featured in the film "Casino" (1995) nonetheless. "Baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby babyyyyy......"

reply

The Devo song in Casino was ‘Whip It’.

The Devo version of ‘(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction’ was a cover of the Rolling Stones.

(Music Curator Andy).

reply

Correct on it being a cover....

But, I believe I Can't Get No... was in fact in "Casino"

I'm seeing the scene and hearing the song in my head.

I think its the scene Sam and Nicky begin to get uncomfortable with each other. Takes place in a restaurant

reply

The Rolling Stones version was in the film (Soundtrack Master Andy).

reply

Fair enough, however, the Rolling Stones version is also featured.

reply

Yeah that may be true. Scorcese often has The Stones music in his films.

I have to tell you though, I don't remember ICGNS - The Stones version that is - in "Casino".

reply

I don't remember that. Monkey Man is in Goodfellas.

reply

Yeah, no offense, but that doesn't mean it was in the film.

It means the song was in the film, which it was - DEVO's version of it.

I'm not saying you are wrong because I don't know for sure.

But I don't remember The Rolling Stones version of ICGNS in "Casino"

reply

I think that might be an error. Next time o get around to watching casino, I'll be looking for the stones version, though

reply

That song was in Casino. They're in a bar when it's playing.

Nice to see you Andy King (no really).

It was a straight answer to a simple question 👍

Its true, and brevity is the soul of wit (or as we Russians say similar, but replace brevity with shortness and wit with talent - Shortness the sister of talent) as Shakespeare (and some other Russian and other legendary writers) would say. No probs with that, mate. :)

But then I did hear both Rolling Stones and Devo's versions in "Casino", and also, if Devo's version was a cover, how come it sounds different? "Wonderful Life" by Hurts sounds different than Black version - cover? Dr. Alban's "Its My Life" wasn't a cover of Talk Talk (No Doubt's one nearly 20 years later was though) and it sounds different too, same with Devo, right?

reply

Devo’s version is a New Wave / Electronica interpretation of the Rolling Stones classic.

Wonderful Life by Hurts is a different composition to Black’s song.

You are correct regarding Its My Life.

Soft, sidetrack comment: Britney Spears also did a cover of ‘(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction’.

Hey! You found the theme song for Kowalski's sex life, rofl! Of course, that song could easily describe the sex lives of several creeps on this website, hehehehe >:)

reply

Just a coincidence, darling. And besides, Rolling Stones' version was also featured in a car shootout scene in "Raw Deal" (1986) with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

reply

I'm a big Devo fan and that's not one of their best songs.
