The grain?

When I saw EWS in theater, one of the things I noticed was how intentionally grainy the film appeared. The dvd / blu ray release removes this effect. I wonder why, and I also wonder if there is a way to watch the film as it originally appeared?

I saw it in theatres and didn't think it looked grainy. Do you think it might've been the theater itself?

reply

No, it was deliberate on Kubrick’s part. It also made the imagery look more like 70’s cinema. I saw it back in the 90’s, when movies were still projected on film.

reply

Hm. I didn't notice, but then, I was a teenager.

all wb films on home video have same grain structure no matter what decade

reply

The blu-ray is kinda grainy, has a warm ‘haze’ over the whole image. It looks nice but this film urgently needs a 4K UHD sourced from the original camera negative.

Get on it, WB…

It's a shame that Leon Vitali isn't around to oversee that sort of thing any more.
