This seemed to have all the makings of a hit. Gosling is a well know actor, action comedies normally do well in the summer, and marketing was everywhere. Maybe the budget was too high for this kind of movie?

It's another example of studios spending way too much on movies where it shouldn't have this high of a budget. If the budget was around the $75 million range than it's opening would be fine. There is no reason a movie like this should've had a budget of $150 million.

Well, to be fair, the film has a ton of action set pieces and stunts, and considering the concept it the film, it needs them. If you dropped the budget to $75 million, how much of that would they have had to cut out?

The budget was too high and I don't think that many people are interested in the idea of a stunt man.

This will end up grossing $250 at the end of its theatrical release.
However claiming this a $125 bud is a blatant lie. All to not pay their investors.

I'm a bit taken aback by the OW totals but it may do well enough to break even. Especially if word of mouth is good.

Based on a forgotten TV show of 40 years ago, which if you do remember it, the only reason to watch it was the occasional scene with Heather Thomas in a bikini.

There was also Markie Post in a bikini and others. The stunts were cool and Elvira was in 2 Halloween episodes.

Neither of these actors are bankable stars. Meaning their name alone doesn't sell tickets. Blunt couldn't even make a hit movie with the Rock. The movie premise is also 20 years out of date.

whether based on an old TV show or not, the plot of this thing just seems like it was cut and pasted together to the point of incoherence. I think people were able to see it was a dumb concept even from the trailers. Now, you can say that the screenplay doesn't matter, leave your brain at the door, and enjoy the action but I don't think that should be an end all be all as far as selling something to an audience. This feels like something you can get at home now. The theater needs more reason and purpose, and this just didn't have much.

The same reason nearly every film has flopped for the past couple years: streaming. Most people are stupid. It's a simple fact of life. If you give stupid people a way to be lazy they'll take it, so being able to sit on their ass at home and watch a movie (that they think of as being "for free" despite paying to stream it), is going to become the new norm.

I don't know. My theater was fairly full last night, but it was really quiet. Very few laughs or even expressions of excitement. While i thought it was mildly entertaining, my wife flat out hated it, and this should have been her cup of tea for sure. It just wasn't a particularly good movie that leaned WAY to hard on the romance plot.15-20 minutes shorter would have benefited it too.
