Going Overboard with Adam Sandler

I came across this movie on the shelf of Suncoast in the late 90's, and as I was a HUGE Sandler fan back then I bought the VHS sight unseen. I'm sure I'm in the minority, but there's something about this movie that has me coming back it throughout the years. It certainly isn't Sandler or his schtick that's good, but the movie's tone and silliness that make it fun throughout and quite hilarious at certain times. One of my favorite scenes is when Burt Young as General Noriega stops the movie (BTW, this is a movie-within-a-movie) and calls in two of his men to have them kill a character in the movie. "Where is she, at the store with the videotapes?" But wouldn't you know, they go and find the character and become a part of the movie while Burt Young is still watching it! Also the character Dickie Diamond absolutely steals the show! Look for the cameos by Billy Bob Thronton and Billy Zane, too! In my opinion, this flick is the epitome of "So Bad They're Good"!

I had a friend who did the same thing: bought the DVD without seeing it beforehand, and laughingly dubbed it "Worst movie EVER!"

I never got around to taking the plunge, and may never do so. But I always chuckle at the cover art when I come across it in the bargain bin or some place like that. It certainly has the look of something so bad it's good.

This one is terrible. It isn't very funny or enjoyable. There were one or two slightly amusing moments, but the film drags on and feels longer than it is. The dialogue is pretty bad and the performances are poor. It's not good, but it is somewhat tolerable. I have seen worse, although this is definitely Sandler's worst film. 3/10
