Doing well with Video on Demand...

Seems unless a movie is pushed by the media like that Awful Barbie film most people just wait for a film to his VOD...
Yup

I should think so, considering no one aside the hard core fans bothered to see it at the cinema. instead going to BarbieHeimer about 5 weekends in a row

This is what I'm saying. People just don't want to go to the movies like they used to. They will see the buzzed about movies out of curiosity but wait for Stuff like Indy and MI. Since they are "old hat".

Though I am glad a movie like Oppenheimer did well. We need more big dramas and documentary films at the theater again. Not just big FX films.

We’ll know when we see how Napoleon and Killers of the Flower Moon do later this fall.

Looking forward to KOTFM

Times change.

People are definitely more selective with their theatre attending than before. Movies often need some hype or something new to break out.

Hollywood will adapt. Making more movies that people want to see and/or by lowering the budgets for big movies. The main reason Indiana Jones flopped is the budget was ridiculously high (partly caused by COVID delays during filming).

People have been complaining about endless sequels and reboots. Complaining about super-hero movies dominating cinema. Shouldn't people be happy that Barbie, The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Oppenheimer are currently the top three grossing movies of the year?

reply

But neither super mario or barbie or oppenheimer is any good. OK, oppenheimer I just assumed base on what I heard, haven't watched it yet.

I think people just desperately want to watch something new and refreshing.

reply

Well Super Mario Bros is not new in any sense of the word....neither is Barbie actually. But SMB is more old hat for that franchise.

I'll be picking up the bluray when it's released. I really didn't mind this movie. It was much better than expected in my opinion.

reply

Totally agree. It was understandably a bit more character driven than the earlier films but I did not mind that in the least....
