Well...yeah. This is just how fictional characters work.... They're written to fit the story they're trying to tell. That's low hanging fruit. EVERYONE knows how fucked up that story became. I'm not talking about unrealistic tropes. I'm talking about the inconsistencies between films regarding the durability of a T800 a normal firearm. And I even acknowledge in my OP that it's not really T1s fault, seeing as they didn't have the foresight of how T2 was going to be written You're really going to tell me you don't think Cameron (or really anyone) is capable of writing Reese and Sarah out of that situation?? Really? Just because the proceeding ones were absolutely shit, doesn't mean we forgive this one for also being shit. That's a nitpick. All he was saying is that it either will or it won't and he couldn't tell you for sure. It was a tongue in cheek turn of phrase. Sort of like taking bets on it is "gallows humor." I'm gathering your strong sarcasm because you are resentful the film does not show the events in Japan. But why would they? Your assertion this is a movie about the atomic bomb is incorrect. This is a movie about Oppenheimer. If you thought you were getting a documentary of the atomic bomb, you were sorely mistaken. Your first clue shouldve been the title of the movie. 80% of the movie is told through Oppenheimer's perspective, while the other 20% is told through Strauss' perspective. Neither of these men were in Japan during these events. We as the audience are meant to feel the disconnect of that event, as opposed to the Trinity test. Oppenheimer was present and heavily involved in the Trinity test and that's why we get all the tension surrounding it. He was blindsided by what happened in Japan, meaning he found out after it already happened. And he resented that. And he wasn't there. So neither is the audience. The movie doesn't have to treat us like children and hold our hands and literally show the horrors of what happened in Japan.... we already know. We are meant to feel disassociated, just like Oppenheimer did when he found out about the event. But like pepetoony said.... that was the entire point. It was meant to be like that in order to lampoon those very things. It's not a fair thing to say the film is pretentious....It's not the movie itself that is pretentious. It would be like calling "Last Action Hero" over-the-top action. That is the entire point. That's why I don't think your comparison to Birdman is a 1:1 comparison.... What did you find pretentious (that wasn't already intentionally pretentious in order to roast said pretentiousness?) Because it was Buzz's way of telling Kevin that he didn't really give a fuck, despite the words he just said. He was rubbing it in that everyone else ate it all up. View all replies >
